Accommodation Near Kapooka

Miss_HMH Brisbane, Australia Reviewed November 6, 2016 Highly recommend for family visiting. We stayed at Astor Inn for my Sons Marchout from Kapooka. After reading Trip Advisor reviews, I opted for the 2 bedroom apartment. Pefect for family with a small kitchen and big shared bathroom with tub. This was more than handy as the recruit buses are nearby, as is the main street with easy access to shops. The apartment also has a little surprise private balcony which gives you a view down the main street. Easy checkin and friendly service. When your soldier is on leave after marchout, it is a great place to relax. Aircon was awesome as it was freezing cold in Wagga at the time! Room tip: The 2 bed apartment is upstairs from the hotel part of Astor Inn. Heater worked very well, and we had daily cleaning which was done very well. There is... The hotel was well located, being just around the corner from the railway station where the recruits, well, actually new soldiers, are expected to board the bus to return them to Kapooka after local leave. Being on one of the 'approved' streets for them to be on in Wagga certainly helped as it meant he could come back to our motel room to relax and enjoy a drink before heading back to base. There is free wifi available but at times it was hit and miss with being able to connect to our devices. We had a shared room which was very reasonable at $149 per night for three adults. Not the best if you aren't built like a model or have any kind of mobility issues. The adjoining bedroom had a queen size bed and a much more user friendly shower, just a regular shower with a decent size entry. The rooms were somewhat dark unless you opened up the curtains leading to the main corridor outside, however that meant that everyone walking past could look into your room and see what you were up to.

Heater worked very well, and we had daily cleaning which was done very well. There is also an adjoining restaurant which has good meals, albeit a little pricey, averaging at around $24 a meal. Reception staff were very helpful, and if you are staying there to attend a march out at Kapooka then make sure you let the staff know for a bit of a discount. Also, they are flexible about changing the dates in the off chance that your son/daughter/husband/wife doesn't march out on the planned date. More Show less

The location is perfect for that, about 50 metres to the train station where they get dropped. I wasn't expecting a 5 star hotel after reading reviews, I wasn't surprised and also wasn't disappointed. What the hotel lacks in grandeur it makes up for in customer service. Everyone that works there was amazingly nice and a breath of fresh air. The onsite restaurant is also great, steak was amazing! All the waiters came to have a chat as I was by myself. It was a nice touch. Do not expect a luxury hotel but it does the job. I would stay here again if visiting Kapooka recruits. Average room, baseline service and I'd say pricey for what you get.
