Dumfries and Galloway is a large county found on the West Coast of Scotland, just North of England's Lake District. Perhaps best known for Gretna Green which has become renowned for runaway weddings, Dumfries and Galloway is also home to lush green forests, beautiful sandy shores and great historic spots that take you back to times gone by. There are a number of great towns in Dumfries and Galloway from beautiful coastal villages to the highest village in Britain. There are also many forest and country parks as well as superb scenic areas that are perfect for outdoor pursuits. Dumfries and Galloway has a wonderful romantic history with the world famous Old Blacksmiths shop at Gretna Green where you can hear about the couple who ran away to tie the knot in this beautiful county. When it comes to good places to visit whilst on a luxury cottage break, in Dumfries and Galloway you will not be short of choices. Places recommended for a day trip include Cardoness Castle, the Stewartry Museum, Sweetheart Abbey, Threave Castle and Torhouse Stone Circle.
The only things this place has going for it is the cheap price, it's locations and clean bathrooms. But that's where the nicities end. The whole park is extremely unloved and unmaintained with unpowered sites being overgrown with weeds and unlevel, the overgrown calistimon trees rub up the side of your van and drop flowers into the roof vents. There are photos of this place having a pool, and they do but it's empty and also overgrown with weeds as well. Not really a place I would be taking a family for a holiday. We have a fully equipped 4WD and we travelled for 2 years all around Australia. It's the first time we heard something like that. We will never go back there. This does stop all ideas of long weekends away or staying somewhere overnight - but it does imply that you can take your children or members of your own household out on day trips to the beach, countrysides or national parks for example. As long as you all abide by the strict social distancing rule laid out by the government. Before you start packing up your picnic baskets there does seem to be a slight roadblock. The National Trust, for example, has closed all its car parks as well as its parks and gardens, so until these types of restrictions change - people will have to wait a little longer before they are able to enjoy the nation's new freedoms in full.
