Hollyford Road will be fully repaired! 🥳 🥳 🥳 MEDIA RELEASE 9 November 2020 Final damaged section of Lower Hollyford Road to be repaired Waka Kotahi NZ... Transport Agency and Southland District Council are pleased to announce that Waka Kotahi has agreed to fund the repair of the last 3km of Lower Hollyford Road in Fiordland. The road, which was severely damaged during the February floods, is owned by Southland District Council but is designated as a special purpose road, which means it attracts full funding by Waka Kotahi. The road leads to the start of the Department of Conservation's Hollyford Track, and Ngāi Tahu's pounamu trail. At a meeting in September of key stakeholders Waka Kotahi, Southland District Council, DOC and Ngāi Tahu, Waka Kotahi agreed to restore 13km of the road under emergency work provisions, at a cost of $400, 000. This work is expected to be completed by 20 December 2020. At a second meeting in October Waka Kotahi agreed to fund restoration of the remaining 3km of the road, at a cost of around $2 million, building rock armoury for 160 metres and strengthening another area weakened by the storm.
Besides the lovely beach at Scamander itself, the next town over – St Helen's is a big fishing town and very popular for game fishing. We saw one guy weighing a Marlin that he had caught.. I won't put up the picture as found it very disturbing and sad, but wow, it was HUGE! What we liked best about St Helens was the lovely bookshop and cafe. A very cute little town with restaurants, cafes and shops to browse at. A short drive from there, you get to Binalong Bay and we were blown away by how amazing the beach was there! The sand squeaked when you walk on the beach and the colour of the sand and sea…straight out of a postcard 🙂 It was really cold though, we only swam for a little bit before we had to get out of the water. Binalong Bay Binalong Bay Beach Continuing from Binalong Bay, you get to Bay of Fires and this was possibly our most favourite spot along the east coast of Tasmania. Simply magical! Bay of Fires All this was just north of Scamander and within an hours drive from Carmens Inn.

I used to be a creepy kid. Fear not, I grew up to be a perfectly normal adult (I think). I'm not a psychopath who kills the neighborhood's cats or anything like that. My mother raised my big sister and I on her own, and she did as well as she could, but money was scarce. I ended up wearing my sister's old clothes. Given the fact that she was ten years older and that she refused to wear anything but black clothes (her dad was a drummer in a metal band, he left when she was 5 but she held out to the hope that he would eventually come back and realize how good of a little metalhead his daughter was and take her on tour with him), I spent my childhood drowned in too big, discoloured black clothes. I also had long black hair with a ragged fringe, and let's just say The Ring movie didn't help much with my popularity. So yeah. I didn't look too cute.
